Wat Phra That Doi Suthep




Yesterday Jenny, Scott, and I went to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep just outside of Chiang Mai. This Wat is one of the holiest sites in the Lanna Kingdom and is over 600 years old. It is said to house a shoulder bone from Buddha himself. This relic has reportedly performed mircles so in order to honor it the priest who found it decided to build a pagoda for it. In order to determine the location for the pagoda he released a white elephant with the relic on his back into the wild. The spot where the elephant decided to rest is the current location of the temple on a very beautiful mountaintop that over looks the city of Chiang Mai.
